Hi, I’m Valerie—a homeschooling mom navigating the ups and downs of teaching my neurodivergent kids at home. Like many parents, I never planned to homeschool, but life had other ideas. When traditional school settings didn’t meet my children’s unique needs, I took a deep breath and jumped into homeschooling—without a roadmap, but with a heart full of determination.
Why I Started Homeschooling
My children are autistic and have ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and other learning differences, and I quickly realized that a one-size-fits-all education wasn’t going to work for them. They needed a flexible, sensory-friendly, and hands-on approach—one that honored their strengths, supported their challenges, and allowed them to learn at their own pace.
Homeschooling has been a learning curve for all of us, filled with trial and error, small victories, and plenty of moments that remind me why I chose this path. It’s not always easy, but it’s been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.
